Bois D’Arc UMC is proud of how well we do food. Our church dinners and events are always delicious. We know, however, that some people don’t have enough food on their tables, let alone enough to share. So we are active in providing support for local food pantries, through cash donations, food donations, volunteer service, and our garden. Here are the primary food pantries we support.
For many years, BDUMC has been a big supporter of Crosslines through the FISH Church program. Crosslines is an agency of the Council of Churches of the Ozarks. Every fifth Tuesday (four times a year), we both supply and staff their food pantry (located at Chestnut Expressway and N. Glenstone in Springfield. By partnering with Crosslines, our little church is able to make a big impact, feeding hundreds of individuals a year. Our next date for FISH Church is September 29. Please speak with Bill Townsend if you would like to volunteer.
The food pantry in Ash Grove opened in 2009, and we have supported it through various food drives. Whenever we collect a themed food drive (we’ve done canned food for Christmas, birthday supplies, etc.), we pass the food on to the AG Food Pantry, which serves around 300 families a month in our area.
We also keep a small amount of canned or non-perishable food on hand for direct distribution. Occasionally, a church attendee will let us know of a need in the community, and we will send them home with several days worth of food to meet the need. You can bring food to church if you’d like to add to our supply. We store it in the vestibule between the buildings on a large shelving unit built for these supplies.
